Hide A Squirrel

© John Dow

My dog has several favorite toys. One is a gray squirrel that we bought him years ago. He's an avid squirrel chaser, in fact he has quite a reputation in the neighborhood with the local squirrel population.

When I first saw the Hide A Squirrel toy I immediately bought it just because it was a squirrel. I was sure my dog would love it. And I was right. We actually have to pick it up and put it way for him to stop playing with it.

The toy is a small tree trunk with several squirrels sticking out and it drives every dog I've shown it to into a frenzy. If you play hide and seek or throw a toy for your dog to find they will be all over this toy.

Our dog, Tuxcito, is a Border Collie who is way too smart for his own good. He can open any door, even sliding glass doors. If he can watch someone do something, he can do it. And he didn't even need someone to show him that the squirrels can come out of the tree trunk.

In fact if I put the squirrels back in and set the toy up on a shelf he'll look up there about every 5 minutes to see if they've come out. It's absolutely hilarious to watch him keep an eye on the squirrels just in case they pop out on there own.

On a lot of toys he goes right for the squeaker (the squirrels have squeakers), or the eyes, or anything he can chew off. He's ripped the stuffing out of many toys. But some reason his original gray squirrel and his hide a squirrel don't get the same treatment. I have no idea why. He does eventually destroy the tree trunk since he's after the squirrels but we just get a new one.

I think the last one I got was $7 or $8 and they last pretty long. Well worth the price for the amusement for both our dog and us. I've bought more expensive toys that he's shredded in minutes. Although if your dog is a chewer, you might keep an eye on him when playing with this toy just in case.

I guarantee that your dog will love this toy and it will provide hours of fun for you and your dog. Our resident feral (cat we rescued from the wild or vice versa) cat will also go after this toy too. And loves to go hide the squirrels somewhere else. You wouldn't believe where we find those darn squirrels.

Anyway, if you want to a great toy for your dog, the Hide A Squirrel is an excellent choice.
